Of all the lines that I have researched, the one that seems
to be of most interest on the internet is that of the Estes/Eastes family
of Kent, England. The Eastes clan has spread to the Africa, the Americas,
Asia, Australia and of course, Europe. These files are not about the descendents of the d'Este family
of Italy, despite many family legends, there is no such documented link.
These Estes are of staid english middle-class origins. For further information and background on the name, check out the
relevant files. What follows is a list of the Estes/Eastes files contained in my
home page. There are now well over 20,000 names, but I am continually expanding
the files (and I wont always bother updating this blurb since it's just
somewhere to hang the links). File sizes are only approximate and may be
larger than given. Why Eastes and Estes? In England the family name settled on
the spelling Eastes by the early 1800's. On the other hand, the American
lines settled on the spelling of Estes, although there are examples of
both spellings on both sides of the Atlantic even today. Some of the more

Descendents of Abraham Estes: This file contains
a list of the descendents of Abraham Estes (1647-1720) of Ringwould, Kent.
Abraham emigrated to Virginia, USA around 1674 and was the progenitor of
the "Southern Estes" line. Most on-line researchers of the Estes/Eastes

Descendents of Matthew and Richard Estes:
Brothers Matthew and Richard Estes, cousins of Abraham (above), emigrated
to Massachusetts, in the north of the USA around 1680 and were progenitors
of the "Northern Estes" line. [355K]

John Estes of Louisa County, Virginia
vs John Estes of Hyde Co, NC: Was he the son of Abraham Estes? The
evidence suggests yes. Note - some of the conclusions
in this essay have been superseded by those in the following article on
"John Estes Sr & Jr of Louisa Co, VA".
John Estes Sr & Jr - which one died
1771, Louisa Co, VA?: Evidence seems to suggest that John Estes Sr
(c.1701) actually died about 1766 and the John Estes who died in 1771,
leaving a wife (Ursula) and several young childrenn was in fact his son,
John Jr (c.1726). Added December, 2003.
