Built 1884 by the Emert family as the family residence. Now owned by a
private school.
Was originally the home of German immigrant Frederick Emert, founder of
a noted early Mt Druitt family. Constructed by John Giles. A
weatherboard house with a galvanished iron 'heap' roof and a
three-sided open verandah with a wooden floor. Originally a
four-bedroom house.
Frederick and his wife, Rosine, arrived in Australia in 1852,
originally from Siglingen in Germany. Upon arrival they found
employment at Mulgoa in the wine making industry which was being
established there (the Emert's came from a wine-making region in
Germany). The Emert's moved to Mt Druitt in 1861. Almost 20 years
latter, in 1878, the Emert's finally purchased their own land in Mt
Druitt, with more purchases in the following years.
The house is now on the campus of the Bethel Christian School and faces
an uncertain future with the school planning its demolition. The
original verandah no longer exists.
